• தென் பிராந்திய ஆராய்ச்சி மையம் (SRRC) என்பது மத்திய செம்மறி மற்றும் கம்பளி ஆராய்ச்சி நிறுவனத்தின் (CSWRI) பிராந்திய மையமாகும், இது இந்திய வேளாண் ஆராய்ச்சி கவுன்சிலின் (I.C.A.R), புது தில்லியின் முதன்மை நிறுவனமாகும். 
• SRRC 16 நவம்பர் 1965 இல் நிறுவப்பட்டது மற்றும் மன்னவனூரில் 45 ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக செயல்பட்டு வருகிறது. இந்த மையம் 1965 ஆம் ஆண்டு முன்னாள் விவசாய அமைச்சர் ஸ்ரீ சி. சுப்ரமணியத்தால் உருவாக்கப்பட்டது. 
• இது கொடைக்கானலில் இருந்து 30 கி.மீ தொலைவில் உள்ளது. இந்த மையம் தமிழ்நாடு மற்றும் கேரளா ஆகிய இரு மாநிலங்களுக்கும் ICAR இன் கீழ் உள்ள விலங்கு அறிவியல் ஆராய்ச்சி மையமாகும். 
• இது இந்தியாவின் தமிழ்நாடு மாநிலத்தில் திண்டுக்கல் மாவட்டத்தில் உள்ள மன்னவனூர் கிராமத்தில் 2,000 மீட்டர் (6,600 அடி) உயரத்தில் 1,340 ஏக்கர் (5.4 கிமீ2) உருளும் புல்வெளியில் அமைந்துள்ளது.
• இந்த மையம் செம்மறி ஆடுகள் மற்றும் முயல்களை கம்பளி மற்றும் இறைச்சிக்காக வளர்க்கிறது, அங்கோரா, சின்சில்லா, வெள்ளை ராட்சத மற்றும் பிற.
• பழனி மலையில் எஞ்சியிருக்கும் உயரமான புல்வெளிகளின் கடைசி பரந்த பகுதிகளுள் இந்த தளமும் ஒன்றாகும். மற்றவை யூகலிப்டஸ், வாட்டில் மற்றும் பிற தோட்டங்களால் கையகப்படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளன. 
• புள்ளிமான்கள், கௌர், காட்டு நாய்கள், சாம்பார் மற்றும் பிற விலங்குகள் வளாகத்திற்கு வழக்கமான பார்வையாளர்கள். அதனுள் இருக்கும் சிறிய ஏரியில் பொதுவான கெண்டை, கண்ணாடி கெண்டை மற்றும் நீர்நாய்கள் உள்ளன.

• Southern Regional Research Centre (SRRC) is a regional centre of the Central Sheep & Wool Research Institute (CSWRI), a premier Institution of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (I.C.A.R), New Delhi. 
• The SRRC was founded on 16 November 1965 and has been active for over 45 years at Mannavanur. The centre was created in 1965 by former Agriculture Minister, Shri C. Subramaniam. It is located 30 km away from Kodaikanal.
• This centre is the animal science research centre under ICAR for both Tamil Nadu and Kerala states. It is located in Mannavanur village, Dindigul district in the Indian state of Tamil Naduon 1,340 acres (5.4 km2) of rolling grassland at altitude 2,000 metres (6,600 ft).
• The centre breeds sheep and rabbits for wool and meat, including Angora, Chinchilla, White giant and others.
• The site is one of the last extensive chunks of high altitude grassland left in the Palani Hills. Others have been taken over by Eucalyptus, Wattle and other plantations. Spotted deer, gaur, wild dogs, sambar and other animals are regular visitors to the campus. The small lake within it has common carp, mirror carp and otters.
