• 1948ல், பாகிஸ்தானிலிருந்து இடம்பெயர்ந்த இந்தியர்களுக்கு உதவுவதற்காக அன்றைய பிரதமர் ஜவஹர்லால் நேருவின் வேண்டுகோளுக்கிணங்க பொதுமக்களின் பங்களிப்புடன் உருவாக்கப் பட்டது தான் பிரதமரின் தேசிய நிவாரண நிதி. 
• தற்போது இந்நிதி வெள்ளம், பூகம்பம், புயல் மற்றும் சூறாவளி போன்ற இயற்கை அழிவுகளினால் உயிரிழந்தவர்களின் குடும்பத்திற்கு அல்லது பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்களுக்கு உடனடி நிவாரணத்திற்காக வழங்கப்படுகிறது. 
• பெரும் கலவரங்கள் அல்லது பெரும் விபத்து போன்றவற்றினால் பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்க்கும் இந்நிதி வழங்கப்படுகிறது. 
• இதய அறுவைசிகிச்சை, நுரையீரல் மாற்று அறுவை சிகிச்சை, புற்று நோய் போன்ற மருத்துவ சிகிச்சைகளுக்கும் இந்நிதி பயன்படுகிறது. பிரதமரின் அறிவுறுத்தலின் பேரில் இந்நிதி பாதிக்கப்பட்டவர்களுக்கு வழங்கப்படுகிறது.
• இந்நிதி முழுக்க முழுக்க பொதுமக்களின் பங்களிப்பை மட்டுமே கொண்டது. 
• இந்நிதி பொதுத்துறை வங்கிகளில் இருப்புக் கணக்கில் முதலீடு செய்யப்படுகிறது. இதற்காக வழங்கப்படும் நிதிக்கு முழுமையான வருமான வரி விலக்கு அளிக்கப்படுகிறது.

• The Prime Minister's National Relief Fund was created in 1948 with public participation at the request of the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to help the displaced Indians from Pakistan. 
• Currently, this fund is provided for immediate relief to the families of victims or victims of natural calamities such as floods, earthquakes, storms and cyclones. This fund is also given to the victims of major riots or major accidents. 
• This fund is also used for medical treatments like heart surgery, lung transplant, cancer. This fund is given to the victims on the instructions of the Prime Minister.
• The fund is entirely funded by public contributions. This fund is invested in the reserve account in public sector banks. Funds provided for this purpose are fully exempted from income tax.
