• நிதி ஆயோக் அமைப்பின்‌ அறிக்கையின்படி பின்தங்கிய மாவட்டங்களை முன்னேற்றும் விதமாக, 2018 ஜனவரி மாதம் முன்னேற விழையும் மாவட்டத் திட்டத்தை பிரதமர் நரேந்திர மோடி தொடங்கிவைத்தார்.
• அதனடிப்படையில் கல்வி, வேளாண்மை மற்றும் நீர்வள ஆதாரங்கள், அனைவருக்குமான நிதிச் சேவைகள் மற்றும் திறன் வளர்ப்பு, சாலை வசதி, குடிநீர், ஊரக மின் வசதி, தனிநபர் இல்லக் கழிப்பறை வசதி உள்ளிட்ட அடிப்படை உட்கட்டமைப்பு ஆகிய இனங்களில் தொடர்ந்து முன்னேற்றம் அடைவதற்கு பல்வேறு நடவடிக்கைகள் விருதுநகர் மாவட்ட நிர்வாகத்தின் மூலம் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டது. 
• இதன் ஒருபகுதியாக, வங்கிக் கணக்கு தொடங்கி காப்பீட்டு திட்டத்தில் அதிகம் பதிவு செய்துள்ள மாவட்டங்கள் பட்டியலில் விருதுநகர் முதலிடத்தை பிடித்துள்ளதாக மத்திய அரசின் நிதி ஆயோக் அமைப்பு அறிவித்துள்ளது.
• அதன்படி, விருதுநகர் மாவட்டத்தில் பிரதான் மந்திரி ஜீவன் ஜோதி பீமா யோஜனா, பிரதான் மந்திரி சுரக்க்ஷா பீமா யோஜனா மற்றும் அடல் பென்சன் ஆகிய திட்டங்களை 111 கிராமங்களில் 68 வங்கிக் கிளைகள் மூலம் எடுத்துச் செல்லப்பட்டதில் 21 வங்கிகள் 100% சதவீத இலக்கை எட்டிப்பிடித்துள்ளன.

• In January 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Progressive District Scheme to improve backward districts as per Niti Aayog report.
• Based on that, various measures have been taken by the Virudhunagar district administration to make continuous progress in basic infrastructure including education, agriculture and water resources, financial services for all and capacity building, road facilities, potable water, rural electricity facilities, individual household toilet facilities.
• As part of this, the central government's Niti Aayog has announced that Virudhunagar has topped the list of districts with the highest number of registered bank accounts and insurance schemes.
• Accordingly, in Virudhunagar district Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bhima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bhima Yojana and Atal Benson schemes have been taken up by 68 bank branches in 111 villages and 21 banks have achieved 100% percentage target.
