மகர சங்கராந்தி / MAKARA SANKRANTI

• மகர சங்கராந்தி, அல்லது சங்கராந்தி சூரியன் தன் வான்வழிப் பயணத்தில் மகர ராசிக்கு மாறும் நாளாகும். இது குளிர்கால கதிர்த்திருப்பத்துடன் இயைந்திருக்கலாம். தற்போது இது சனவரி 14 அன்று நடைபெறுகிறது. 
• இன்றிலிருந்து பகல் நேரம் கூடுதலாவது கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. இந்தியாவின் பல பகுதிகள் இது அறுவடையோடு ஒன்றினால் அறுவடை திருவிழாவாகவும் சூரியனுக்கு வரவேற்பும் நன்றியும் தெரிவிக்கும் திருவிழாவாகவும் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.
• பொங்கல் பண்டிகை தமிழ்நாடு தவிர இந்தியாவின் பிற பகுதிகளில் சூரிய வழிபாடு எனும் மகர சங்கராந்தி என்ற பெயரில் சிறப்பாகக் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. 
• இந்தியக் கலாசாரத்தின் தாக்கம் கொண்ட, இந்தோனேசியா, தாய்லாந்து, லாவோஸ், நேபாளம், மியான்மர், இலங்கை போன்ற ஆசிய நாடுகளிலும் கூட மகர சங்கராந்தி விழா வேறு பெயர்களில் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.
• புவி சூரியனைச் சுற்றி வந்தாலும் இந்திய தொன்மவியலில் பனிரெண்டு இராசிகளாகப் பிரிக்கப்பட்ட வான்வெளியில் சூரியன் நகர்வதாகக் கருதப்படுகிறது. இந்த நகர்வில் சூரியன் வடக்கு நோக்கி தனது பயணத்தை திருப்புகின்ற நாள் மகர சங்கராந்தி எனப்படுகிறது. 
• சமசுகிருதத்தில் சங்கரமண எனில் நகரத் துவங்கு எனப் பொருள். இதுவே இவ்விழா சங்கராந்தி என அழைக்கப்பட காரணமாயிற்று.
• இந்தியாவின் பரந்த நிலப்பரப்பு,வானிலை மற்றும் பன்முக பண்பாடு காரணமாக பல்வேறு பெயர்களிலும் பல்வேறு வரலாறுகளுடனும் இவ்விழா கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது.
• பன்னிரு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு ஒருமுறை நிகழும் கும்பமேளா, மகர சங்கராந்தி அன்று துவங்குகிறது.

• Makara Sankranti, or Solstice, is the day when the Sun moves into the sign of Capricorn on its aerial journey. It may be associated with winter radiation. Currently it is held on January 14. From today onwards, daylight hours are also celebrated. 
• In many parts of India it is celebrated as a harvest festival as well as a festival to welcome and give thanks to the sun.
• Apart from Tamil Nadu, Pongal festival is celebrated in other parts of India under the name of Makara Sankranti, sun worship. Influenced by Indian culture, the Makara Sankranti festival is also celebrated under different names in Asian countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Nepal, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka.
• Although the earth revolves around the sun, in Indian mythology the sun is considered to move through the celestial sphere divided into twelve zodiac signs. Makara Sankranti is the day when the sun reverses its journey towards the north in this movement. 
• Sankaramana in Sanskrit means to start moving. This is the reason why this festival is called Sankranti. Due to India's vast landscape, climate and diverse culture, this festival is celebrated with different names and different histories. Kumbh Mela, which takes place once in twelve years, begins on Makara Sankranti.
