11 பிப்ரவரி 2024 அன்று நடைபெறும் அறிவியல் பேரவையில் பெண்கள் மற்றும் குழந்தைகளுக்கான 9வது சர்வதேச தினம், அறிவியலில் பெண்கள் மற்றும் சிறுமிகளின் பங்கை, பயனாளிகளாக மட்டுமல்லாமல், மாற்றத்தின் முகவர்களாகவும் அங்கீகரிக்கப்படுவதை நோக்கமாகக் கொண்டுள்ளது.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN & GIRLS IN SCIENCE 2024 - 11TH FEBRUARY | அறிவியலில் பெண்கள் மற்றும் குழந்தைகளுக்கான சர்வதேச தினம் 2024 - பிப்ரவரி 11: உலகெங்கிலும் உள்ள அனைத்து அறிவியல், தொழில்நுட்பம், பொறியியல் மற்றும் கணிதம் (STEM) துறைகளில் குறிப்பிடத்தக்க பாலின இடைவெளி பல ஆண்டுகளாக நீடித்து வருகிறது.

பெண்கள் உயர்கல்வியில் தங்கள் பங்களிப்பை அதிகரிப்பதில் அபரிமிதமான முன்னேற்றம் அடைந்திருந்தாலும், இந்தத் துறைகளில் அவர்கள் இன்னும் குறைவாகவே பிரதிநிதித்துவப்படுத்தப்படுகிறார்கள்.

பாலின சமத்துவம் என்பது ஐக்கிய நாடுகள் சபையின் முக்கியப் பிரச்சினையாக இருந்து வருகிறது. பாலின சமத்துவம் மற்றும் பெண்கள் மற்றும் சிறுமிகளின் அதிகாரமளித்தல் ஆகியவை உலகின் பொருளாதார வளர்ச்சிக்கு மட்டுமல்ல, நிலையான வளர்ச்சிக்கான 2030 நிகழ்ச்சி நிரலின் அனைத்து இலக்குகள் மற்றும் இலக்குகளில் முன்னேறுவதற்கும் முக்கியமான பங்களிப்பை வழங்கும்.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN & GIRLS IN SCIENCE 2024 - 11TH FEBRUARY: International Day of Women and Girls in Science is observed globally on 11 February. The 9th International Day of Women and Girls in Science Assembly, taking place on 11 February 2024, aims to recognize the role of women and girls in science, not only as beneficiaries but also as agents of change, including in view of accelerating progress towards the achievement of SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation).

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN & GIRLS IN SCIENCE 2024 - 11TH FEBRUARY: A significant gender gap has persisted throughout the years at all levels of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines all over the world. Even though women have made tremendous progress towards increasing their participation in higher education, they are still under-represented in these fields.

Gender equality has always been a core issue for the United Nations. Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls will make a crucial contribution not only to economic development of the world, but to progress across all the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, as well.

On 14 March 2011, the Commission on the Status of Women adopted a report at its fifty-fifth session, with agreed conclusions on access and participation of women and girls in education, training and science and technology, and for the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work. 

On 20 December 2013, the General Assembly adopted a resolution on science, technology and innovation for development, in which it recognized that full and equal access to and participation in science, technology and innovation for women and girls of all ages is imperative for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

INTERNATIONAL DAY OF WOMEN & GIRLS IN SCIENCE 2024 - 11TH FEBRUARY: Women are typically given smaller research grants than their male colleagues and, while they represent 33.3% of all researchers, only 12% of members of national science academies are women.

In cutting edge fields such as artificial intelligence, only one in five professionals (22%) is a woman.

Despite a shortage of skills in most of the technological fields driving the Fourth Industrial Revolution, women still account for only 28% of engineering graduates and 40% of graduates in computer science and informatics.

Female researchers tend to have shorter, less well-paid careers. Their work is underrepresented in high-profile journals and they are often passed over for promotion.
