3rd MARCH - WORLD WILDLIFE DAY 2024 / உலக வனவிலங்கு தினம் 2024: வளர்ந்த மற்றும் வளரும் நாடுகளில் உள்ள பில்லியன் கணக்கான மக்கள், உணவு, ஆற்றல், பொருட்கள், மருத்துவம், பொழுதுபோக்கு, உத்வேகம் மற்றும் மனித நல்வாழ்வுக்கான பல முக்கிய பங்களிப்புகளுக்கு காட்டு இனங்களைப் பயன்படுத்துவதன் மூலம் தினமும் பயனடைகின்றனர்.

உலகின் வன விலங்குகள் மற்றும் தாவரங்களைப் பற்றிய விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்படுத்த ஒரு நாளை அர்ப்பணிப்பதை நோக்கமாகக் கொண்டது. இதன் விளைவாக, டிசம்பர் 20, 2013 அன்று பொதுச் சபையின் தீர்மானத்தை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டதைத் தொடர்ந்து, மார்ச் 3 உலக வனவிலங்கு தினமாக 2014 இல் அதிகாரப்பூர்வமாக அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது.

3rd MARCH - WORLD WILDLIFE DAY 2024: Billions of people, in developed and developing nations, benefit daily from the use of wild species for food, energy, materials, medicine, recreation, inspiration and many other vital contributions to human well-being.

The accelerating global biodiversity crisis, with a million species of plants and animals facing extinction, threatens these contributions to people.

World Wildlife Day (WWD) is an opportunity to celebrate the many beautiful and varied forms of wild fauna and flora and to raise awareness of the multitude of benefits that their conservation provides to people.

At the same time, the Day reminds us of the urgent need to step up the fight against wildlife crime and human-induced reduction of species, which have wide-ranging economic, environmental and social impacts. Given these various negative effects, Sustainable Development Goal 15 focuses on halting biodiversity loss.

This day is celebrated globally on 3rd March and is closely aligned with Sustainable Development Goal 12 that is Life without water, which focuses on marine species and highlights the problems, critical issues of marine wildlife to our everyday life.

History 

3rd MARCH - WORLD WILDLIFE DAY 2024: The inception of World Wildlife Day traces back to a proposal made by Thailand to the United Nations General Assembly in 2013. The proposal aimed at dedicating a day to raise awareness about the world’s wild animals and plants.

Consequently, March 3 was officially designated as World Wildlife Day in 2014, following the adoption of a resolution by the General Assembly on December 20, 2013. 

This date also marks the anniversary of the signing of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), an international agreement aimed at ensuring that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival.
