WORLD STANDARDS DAY 2024 - 14TH OCTOBER / உலக தர நிர்ணய தினம் 2024 - 14 அக்டோபர்: உலக தர நிர்ணய தினம் அக்டோபர் 14 அன்று இந்தியா முழுவதும் கொண்டாடப்படுகிறது. சர்வதேச எலக்ட்ரோடெக்னிகல் கமிஷன் (IEC), தரநிலைப்படுத்தலுக்கான சர்வதேச அமைப்பு (ISO) மற்றும் சர்வதேச தொலைத்தொடர்பு ஒன்றியம் (ITU) போன்ற தரநிலை மேம்பாட்டு நிறுவனங்களில் தன்னார்வத் தரங்களை மேம்படுத்தும் ஆயிரக்கணக்கான நிபுணர்களின் முயற்சிகளை இந்த நாள் அங்கீகரிக்கிறது.

WORLD STANDARDS DAY 2024 - 14TH OCTOBER: The celebration of World Standards Day will be observed all over India on 14 October. This day recognizes the efforts of thousands of experts developing voluntary standards in standards development organizations such as the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). 

The aim of World Standards Day is to raise awareness among regulators, industry, and consumers of the importance of standardization for the global economy.

October 14 was specifically chosen to mark this date in 1946 when delegates from 25 countries met for the first time in London and decided to found an international organization focused on facilitating standardization.

Although the ISO was founded a year later, the first World Standardization Day was not celebrated until 1970. Each year, the ISO sets a theme based on a current aspect of standardization.

History of the World Standard Day

WORLD STANDARDS DAY 2024 - 14TH OCTOBER: World Standards Day was first organized in 1946. On October 14, the official date, the meeting of delegates from 25 countries gathered in London for the first time. 

They decided to find an international organization focused on standardization. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was considered at the conference and one year later the ISO was envisaged. In 1970, World Standards Day was celebrated for the first time.

Standards are important, as we all know, and we have all been built with this concept, but it is quite possible that we do not know how vital standards can be. In times of international standards and industrialization, it was not possible, without consultation with the original manufacturer, to obtain a spare part for a machine or equipment that you owned. Even then it was quite possible that they could only make a “best fit” patch.

Without automation or compliance, every component of these machines has been specially designed, which means they are unique to this device. The industrial revolution marked the beginning of a major change.

If many people consider fire as the most important invention of humans, this may be standardization. If you need a replacement screw today, you know you can go to a hardware store and buy one.

When you purchase a new router, you know that it can communicate with networks and other electronic devices because they all work on a set of standardized frequencies. Even your cars run on fuel because ISO sets the standard for that type of vehicle. World Standards Day celebrates the hard work of ISO and how it has profoundly shaped today’s world.

What is an ISO standard?

WORLD STANDARDS DAY 2024 - 14TH OCTOBER: How to measure the weight, size or even size of your shoe is the norm. The world needed an international product standard to ensure quality, quantity, and safety facilitating international trade.

In 1947, an international standardization body was “founded”, an independent organization from 25 countries, to facilitate international coordination and standardization of industry standards. The ISO now has members from 162 countries and 786 technical committees.

Traders and businesses need ISO standard certificates to facilitate their trade and business. Till now, ISO has published approximately 22,355 international standards covering nearly all aspects of manufacturing, fabrication, and technology.
